In Fate/stay night, after losing his family in an unknown fire, Shirou is rescued by Kiritsugu Emiya and taken under his wing to learn about magic and justice. Years later, following Kiritsugus death, while cleaning at school, Shirou becomes entangled in a deadly conflict between two superhumans known as Servants. During the ensuing struggle, he sustains life-threatening injuries but manages to survive. However, the same Servant returns with the intent of finishing what they started. Desperate for help, Shirou summons his own Servant, Saber, and together they participate in the Fifth Holy Grail War, a battle between seven Servants and their mage summoners, with the ultimate goal being to obtain the all-powerful Holy Grail. Throughout the series, Shirou grapples with the distinction between heroism and violence, as his beliefs clash with the harsh realities around him. Will he ultimately become a hero like Kiritsugu or fall trying?
