Shin was an Asranian air force pilot who had been tricked into fighting in their civil war by his friend, Satoru Kanzaki. This happened after he signed up for military service under the influence of alcohol at a local bar. Despite becoming one of the top aces at Area 88, Shin began to feel like he was losing his humanity as time passed within the base. As a result, he became distant from most people there. However, he did form close friendships with Mickey Simon, Kim Aoba, Kitori Palvanaff, Roundell, and his commanding officer, Saki Vashtal. All of Shin's aircraft had a flaming unicorn head painted on the tail.
