Exclusive: Dark Horse to Reprint Gunsmith Cats Burst Manga in 2 Omnibus Volumes
Volume 1 ships on December 16, volume 2 on March 17, 2026
On Thursday, Burst sequel manga was announced by Dark Horse Comics for publication in a two-volume omnibus edition with translation, lettering, and retouching by Studio Cutie. Additionally, they shared the cover for the first volume.

Volume One:
Rally and ace transporter Bean Bandit find themselves well outside city limits—and deep in the heart of Texas. After Bean's vehicle is swiped, Rally hires Bean to get her and her bounty back to Chicago in a rental car, but the car only has half a tank of gas. Pretty soon, Bean's got to get out and push! The desperate situation gets worse when they seek sanctuary at a remote motel far off the interstate with mob hitmen on their trail.
Currently, a new police officer named Inspector Percy Bacharach has been assigned to the Chicago Police Department after being transferred from Detroit P.D. due to his reckless driving habits that resulted in several damaged squad cars. His mission is not to arrest Bean Bandit but rather to confront him in a deadly duel on the highway.
Volume Two:
An illegal road race exclusively for V8 freaks is underway. While big-money bets from the audience fly fast and furious online, Rally's behind the wheel of her new Mustang II King Cobra to keep a tail on Bean Bandit. Bean's the favorite to win the race, but his obsessed nemesis Detective Percy is in the contest, too. And Percy's not what you'd call a clean cop—in fact he's so dirty, he's taking a 10% cut of the bets…plus he plans to throw the odds by having Bean wrecked by hired mercenaries!
In Chicago, tensions are high as past conflicts resurface, putting Rally in the path of dangerous individuals. Goldie, once a feared mob boss, is suffering from memory loss and her crew is pressuring Rally to help them locate her. However, Rally may face risks as they were the one who ended Goldie's life.
The first omnibus volume with 476 pages will be released on December 16th and the second one with 496 pages will come out on March 17th, 2026. Both volumes will cost US$29.99 each.
Burst was published as a serial in Afternoon magazine from 2004 to 2008 by Kodansha. It is a continuation of the original Gunsmith Cats manga by Masamune Kurumada.
Gunsmith Cats, originally published as a manga series, has been republished by Dark Horse Comics in a two-volume omnibus edition. The first volume was released on February 4th, while the second volume is scheduled for release on July 29th.
Gunsmith Cats was initially published by Dark Horse Comics as a nine-volume series from 1996 to 2002. In 2007, they released a four-volume revised edition of the original series. Additionally, they published the sequel series, Burst, which ran from 2007 to 2010.
In Japan from 1995 to 1996, the three-part Gunsmith Cats anime was initially released as an original video animation (OVA). ADV later released it on VHS in 1996 and on DVD in 2001. In 2018, AnimEigo launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring the anime to Blu-ray Disc format. The campaign was successful and the Blu-ray Disc set was released in 2019.
