On Tuesday, it was announced that My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 will start airing on July 5 at midnight JST (which translates to July 6) on Tokyo MX, BS11, Tochigi TV, and Gunma TV. Along with this announcement, they released a new visual and commercial.
The TV show was based on a manga series which started airing in Japan in early 2022 with 12 episodes. Both Funimation and Crunchyroll are streaming it as it airs, with English dubs available on both platforms.
The manga also inspired a live-action series adaptation, which premiered in Japan in October 2024.
Square Enix Manga & Books publishes the manga in English, and it describes the story:
Traumatized by a childhood incident with a friend who took exception to his love of traditional dolls, doll-artisan hopeful Wakana Gojō passes his days as a loner, finding solace in the home ec room at his high school. To Wakana, people like beautiful Marin Kitagawa, a trendy girl who's always surrounded by a throng of friends, is practically an alien from another world. But when cheerful Marin--never one to be shy--spots Wakana sewing away one day after school, she barges in with the aim of roping her quiet classmate into her secret hobby: cosplay .
In January 2018, the manga was introduced in Square Enix's "Young Gangan" magazine. Afterwards, it was serialized monthly during its "Tenmei" (Mandate of Heaven) arc starting September 2023 with chapter 86 that debuted in January 2023. Despite ending on March 21, the original manga will receive bonus and epilogue chapters at a later date. Square Enix published its 14th compiled book volume in November 2024 and will release its 15th volume on July 25. Meanwhile, Square Enix Manga & Books released the manga's 13th volume in English on April 15, with its 14th volume set for October 21 release in English.
