2025 Detective Conan film stays at #2, live-action Blank Canvas film drops to #7
In its seventh weekend, the 28th film in the Detective Conan franchise, "One-eyed Flashback," remained at #2. It sold 242,000 tickets for 346,376,500 yen (about US$2.4 million) from Friday to Sunday. As of now, it has sold a total of 9.21 million tickets for a cumulative total of 13,322,638,700 yen (about US$92.48 million).
In Japan, the movie debuted as the top-grossing film. It made approximately US$24.15 million from ticket sales in its first three days, breaking the franchise's previous opening-weekend record.
In Japan, "Detective Conan: One-eyed Flashback" was released on April 18th with screenings available at IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, Dolby Cinema, and regular showtimes. This marks a new record for the franchise with 522 theaters showing the film. "Twilight!!!," performed by King Gnu, serves as the theme song for this movie.
The film was directed by Katsuya Shigehara, who is the unit director for Detective Conan: Kurogane no Submarine . Takeharu Sakurai wrote the script for this film, as he has done for various Detective Conan movies.
The compilation film of the "Hidden Inventory/Premature Death" arc from the second season of the Jujutsu Kaisen anime ranked #4 in its opening weekend with 138,000 tickets sold and earnings of 198,332,500 yen (about US$1.38 million) in its first three days.
On May 30th, the movie was released in Japan. Tatsuya Kitani sang the theme song for this movie which was an acoustic version of "Ao no Sumika," his theme song for the anime series' second season.
GKIDS has purchased the rights for the anime and plans to release it in cinemas across the US on July 16th. Both subtitled and English-dubbed versions of the movie will be shown.
In Japan, the anime's second season was released in July 2023 and lasted for two quarters or half a year. It covered both arcs from the manga - "Hidden Inventory / Premature Death" ("Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu") and "Shibuya Incident". The "Hidden Inventory / Premature Death" arc depicts the story of Satoru Gojō and Suguru Getō during their time in school, and when they were still friends.
In its second weekend, Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure spinoff manga Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe dropped from #4 to #5 in sales. Over three days, the live-action film adaptation of the manga sold 148,816,060 yen (about US$1.03 million) and has since earned a total of 528,811,540 yen (about US$3.67 million).
In its first three days, the movie made $1.81 million by selling 177,000 tickets. It was fourth in ticket sales during that time frame.
In the upcoming film "March Comes in Like a Lion," Issei Takahashi will once again portray the lead character he played in the previous nine television adaptations and movie. Additionally, Marie Itoyo will reprise her role as Kyoka Izumi from previous installments.
Kazutaka Watanabe directed the latest live-action JoJo's Bizarre Adventure movie, which was produced by NHK Enterprises and P.I.C.S., with Yasuko Kobayashi returning as scriptwriter for this installment. Naruyoshi Kikuchi composed the music for this movie, with Shin Ongaku Seisaku Kōbō assisting him. Isao Tsuge was in charge of character designs and costume design for this movie. Lastly, ASMIK Ace is distributing this movie.
In its third weekend, Blank Canvas: My So-Called Artist's Journey ( Kakukaku Shikajika ) fell from #5 to #7 in the box office rankings for its live-action film adaptation. Despite this, the movie made 96,272,200 yen (approximately US$669,600) in revenue from Friday through Sunday. As of now, it has sold a total of 440,000 tickets and has earned a cumulative total of 582,901,880 yen (approximately US$4.05 million).
The film opened on May 16.
The film stars Mei Nagano as high school girl Akiko and Yō Ōizumi as art teacher Hidaka.
Kazuaki Seki was the director of the movie. Along with Higashimura, Date-san wrote the script. Yuki Munakata composed the music for it.
In its second weekend, the movie "Dragon Heart" by Happy Science (Kōfuku no Kagaku) moved down from #6 to #8 in box office rankings. Over three days, it made 77 million yen (about $539,800). To date, it has grossed 244 million yen (about $1.69 million).

According to sources, Ryuho Okawa was both the executive producer and the original conceptualizer of the film. Isamu Imakake directed it. "Dragon Heart" was sung by kouta for its theme song.
In the movie, Yūsuke Kobayashi plays the role of Ryuusuke while Chinatsu Hirose portrays Tomomi. Additionally, Shigeru Chiba, Shunsuke Takeuchi, and Shinichirō Miki are also part of the cast.
The latest film in the Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE series, known as TABOO NIGHT KISSES or Gekijōban Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE TABOO NIGHT XXXX, has moved from its initial ranking of #7 to #9 in its fourth weekend. Despite this change, the film has still managed to generate impressive earnings of 105,157,300 yen (approximately US$731,500) from Friday to Sunday. Overall, TABOO NIGHT KISSES has earned a total of 661,812,020 yen (around US$4.60 million) since its release.
On May 9th, the movie was launched in Japan and it ranked fourth during its opening weekend. It sold approximately 92,000 tickets and generated around US$1.29 million in revenue within its first three days.
The film was directed by Takeshi Furuta as its chief director and Akiko Seki as its anime director at A-1 Pictures. Chinatsu Kurahana, who designed original characters for several Utano☆Princesama films and series, was responsible for the film's character designs again. Katsuyoshi Miyajima was the character modeling director for Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE ST☆RISH Tours. Elements Garden composed the music for the film.
Tabekko Dōbutsu THE MOVIE dropped off the top 10 in its fifth weekend.

Ryūya Suzuki's independent anime film, "Mumei no Jinsei," moved up from #7 to #5 in mini-theater rankings during its third weekend.
