Kuranosuke Sasaki, Kana Kurashina, Issey Ogata star in fall 2026 period show
On Friday, NHK declared that they plan to launch a live-action television show based on George Akiyama's Haguregumo manga in autumn 2026 on their channels NHK BS and NHK BSP4K.
In Bakumatsu period, Tokyo's Shinagawa-shuku way station serves as the setting for this tale. It revolves around Kumo, a man who dresses in women's clothing and ties his hair on his forehead. Along with his wife Kame, son Shinnosuke, and other individuals they encounter in their shop, Kumo leads a carefree life during this time.
An eight-part TV show featuring Kana Kurashina from Jigoku Shōjo and Oshi no Ko, Kuranosuke Sasaki from 20th Century Boys and Godzilla Minus One, and Issey Ogata from Phoenix: Eden17 and The Imaginary as Haguregumo 's wife Kame, Hagure gumo, and Yokujirō respectively.
Ryo Takada is responsible for creating episodes one through eight while Masashi Shimizu handles the rest of them. Kōji Endō is in charge of composing the music for this production.
In 1973, Haguregumo was introduced as part of Shogakukan's Big Comic Original series. It continued until 2017. This manga inspired an anime film that was released in 1982.
Akiyama died in May 2020, at the age of 77.
In the 2012 anime Asura, the inspiration came from Akiyama's 1970s Ashura manga. Additionally, his Sutegataki Hitobito manga led to a live-action film that premiered in Japan in October 2013. Lastly, his Koiko no Mainichi manga inspired an original video anime ( OVA ) in 1989.
In 1979-1981, Akiyama's Gyara was published in Shonen King magazine by Shonengahosha with eight volumes. Currently, Katsumi Kobayashi is drawing a remake of this manga series in Young King BULL magazine by Shonengahosha since January 2019. The first part of this ongoing series ended on March 2020.
