The Detective is Already Dead Season 2 Anime Reveals Returning Cast, Staff, 2026 Debut

On Tuesday, Kadokawa announced that they would be releasing a teaser image for the second season of the anime adaptation of Nigojū and Umibōzu 's 'The Detective Is Already Dead.' Additionally, they shared information about the return of the show's cast and crew, as well as its planned debut in 2026.
Manabu Kurihara will once again lead the production of the second season of ENGI. Deko Akao will continue to write the series scripts, while Yōsuke Itō will again handle character design for the show.
The returning cast includes:
- Arata Nagai as Kimihiko Kimizuka
- Saki Miyashita as Siesta
- Ayana Taketatsu as Nagisa Natsunagi
- Kanon Takao as Yui Saikawa
- Saho Shirasu as Charlotte Arisaka Anderson
The anime's second season was first announced in July 2022.
In July 2021, the anime's initial season was introduced through a one-hour special, followed by 12 episodes. Funimation started streaming it in July of that same year, along with an English dub. According to Funimation, the story revolves around [insert story description here].
The series follows Kimizuka Kimihiko, a young man who is always getting into trouble, as he finds himself the assistant of Siesta, a globe-trotting detective, and the two of them solve a series of mysteries.
Despite many years of exploration and rescuing individuals, Siesta suddenly passes away. However, her influence will continue to impact Kimihiko and others as they progress.
In November 2019, Nigojū released the initial installment of their light novel series featuring artwork by Umibōzu under Kadokawa 's MF Bunko J imprint. This work was recognized as the best newcomer of the 15th MF Bunko J awards in 2019. Kadokawa plans to release the 13th volume on July 25th. Meanwhile, Yen Press is currently translating and publishing the original novels in English.
In May 2024, Charlotte wa Tada, Jiken o Tokitai was released as a spinoff novel by authors Hoko Hinachi and Minori Chigusa. Nigojū is both the original author and supervisor of this work, which is titled Code:RED.
