Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage won Bronze Audience Award
At Fantasia International Film Festival, the second installment in the Mononoke series, titled "Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II - The Ashes of Rage," received recognition with a Bronze Audience Award in the Best Animated Feature category.
This year's event was held from July 16 through August 3 in Montreal.
The Audience Awards at the Fantasia International Film Festival are decided through voting by attendees of the festival. In 2024, Ghost Cat Anzu received the gold award for Best Animated Feature in this category, while Mononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain won bronze.
Netflix will stream the second film on August 14.
In Japan, the movie was released on March 14th and made 98,093,680 yen during its first three days, which is equivalent to approximately US$675,360.
Hiroshi Kamiya will once again portray the character of the Medicine Seller in the upcoming production. Additionally, several familiar faces will be back on set, including Haruka Tomatsu playing Botan Ōtomo, Yōko Hikasa portraying Fuki Tokita, and Yūki Kaji taking on the role of Saburōmaru Tokita.
Aina The End performs the film's theme song "Hana Musō."
The movie premiered in the West during the 2025 Annecy International Animation Festival, which took place from June 8th to June 14th.
In July 2024, Mononoke The Movie: Phantom in the Rain was released in Japan. Netflix is currently streaming this film. Initially planned for release in 2023, the film was delayed until February 2023. During this announcement, it was revealed that Takahiro Sakurai would no longer be playing the Medicine Seller as previously planned. Instead, Kamiya took on this role.
The third film, Gekijōban Mononoke Dai-San-Shō: Hebigami , will open in spring 2026.
