Mamoru Miyano, Kenjirō Tsuda, Michio Hazama, Toshio Furukawa join cast of film
On Wednesday, the team behind Scarlet, directed by Mamoru Hosoda at Studio Chizu, revealed additional voice actors who will be joining the film's cast.
The newly announced cast members are (from left to right):
- Michio Hazama as the elder leader of a caravan who aids Scarlet
- Mamoru Miyano as one half of a gravedigger duo who appear in Scarlet 's dream
- Kenjirō Tsuda as the other half of the gravedigger duo
- Toshio Furukawa as an innkeeper
Miyano has played three characters in Hosoda films, including those in The Boy and The Beast and BELLE. Tsuda has also appeared in two Hosoda films, following his roles in BELLE. Additionally, Hazama and Furukawa are making their first appearances in a Hosuda film with this new project.
The release date for the film in North America has been pushed back from its original plan of opening on December 12th in the US, to an early 2026 release date. However, it is still scheduled to have an awards-qualifying run this year in North America.
The film will open in Japan on November 21.
The film had its world debut at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival on September 4-5. It was also shown as a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival during its 50th anniversary, with four screenings from September 10-12. Lastly, it will be shown at the New York Film Festival on October 7 and 8.
