Arata: The Legend, アラタカンガタリ～革神語～

In every 30 years, a new female member from the Hime family is appointed to serve as the Hayagami's princess. However, recent records indicate that no females were born except for one, Arata, who is only 15 years old and actually male. Due to this situation, he was forced to disguise himself as a female candidate for the position of princess until a suitable replacement could be found. At the festival, Kokuri-hime, the current princess, was murdered by her personal guard, the Shinshou, who were all 12 in number. As Arata attempted to flee from danger, he was mistakenly accused of being the murderer by Kannagi, one of the 12 Shinshou, leading everyone in the Imperial Court to pursue him for his life.

Arata Kangatari has been published in English as Arata: The Legend by VIZ Media under the Shonen Sunday imprint since March 9, 2010.In 2014, mangaka Yuu Watase blogged that she was subject to editorial harassment while working on Arata Kangatari. She explained that her former editor would bulldoze her ideas to make room for his own and would constantly ask her to redraw scenes, which lead to immense stress and exhaustion.
