Despite being a talented artist, middle school student Moritaka Mashiro is uncertain about his future, resigning himself to living an ordinary life. After seeing one of Mashiros drawings in class, Akito Takagi-an aspiring writer-encourages them to collaborate on creating a manga together. However, Mashiro is hesitant due to the memory of his uncle, who died from overworking as a mangaka just a few years ago. Nevertheless, when he learns that Miho Azuki, his crush, aims to become a voice actress and wants to star in an anime adaptation of their work, Mashiro becomes determined to create a successful manga. In return, Miho agrees to marry him once they both achieve their dreams. Bakuman follows the journey of Mashiro and Takagi as they strive for success in the competitive world of Weekly Shounen Jump and become famous mangakas. Will their efforts pay off or will they join the ranks of failed manga creators?
