Moritaka mashiro was a child who dreamed of becoming a mangaka like his uncle and childhood hero, tarou kawaguchi. however, after experiencing tragedy, he abandoned his dream and focused on studying to become a salaryman instead. one day, akito takagi, the top student in school and aspiring writer, noticed moritakas detailed drawings in his notebook. recognizing the immense potential of his artistic talent, akito approached him with the proposal that they create manga together. after much persuasion, moritaka realized that if he could produce a successful manga series, it might help him win over miho azuki, whom he had a crush on, to participate in an anime adaptation as a voice actor. as a result, the two began working under the name muto ashirogi with the goal of becoming japan's greatest mangaka.
Bakuman. was licensed by Media Blasters in North America, but only released one 2-disc DVD containing the first 7 episodes, the rest of the releases were cancelled.
