A 12-year-old named Shindou Hikaru is just an average sixth grader until he discovers a vintage Go board in his grandfather's attic. As soon as he touches it, he becomes possessed by the spirit of Fujiwara no Sai, who was once a renowned Go player and took his own life after being unable to play again. Despite this, Sai continues to haunt Hikaru until he finally agrees to let him play through himself. Unbeknownst to Hikaru, he is now attempting the first game with Touya Akira, who is a young prodigy in Go. With Sai's quest for "The Hand of God" underway, time has begun to move forward based on the manga by Yumi Hotta and Takeshi Obata.
