In Cross Reverie, Diablo is known for being incredibly powerful due to possessing rare artifacts and an extremely high player level. However, despite this fearsome reputation, it's revealed that he is actually Takuma Sakamoto, a socially awkward shut-in gamer who only cares about his virtual life. One day, while playing Cross Reverie, Diablo is suddenly transported to another world where he has the appearance of the Demon King. Here, he meets Rem Galeu and Shera L. Greenwood, two girls who summoned him in an attempt to subjugate him through an Enslavement Ritual. However, the spell backfires and causes them to become Diablo's slaves instead. With this newfound awkwardness, Takuma decides to accompany the girls on a quest to unbind their contract while learning how to adapt to his new existence as the Demon King.

Based on the light novel series written by Yukiya Murusaki. The light novels have been translated to English under the title How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord, published by J-Novel Club since December 4, 2017. The series has also been adapted to a manga written by Naoto Fukuda, published by Suiyobi no Sirius since June 2015.
