Hotaru Hinase is a high school student who values family and friends above all else. She doesn't understand romance, so she decides to live without the experience of falling in love. While spending time at a cafe with her friend, Hotaru witnesses the breakup of a handsome honor student named Hananoi. The next day, while walking home, she sees him sitting alone in the snow and extends her umbrella to him as a gesture of kindness. Hananoi asks Hotaru to be his girlfriend the very next day, but she rejects him. Despite this rejection, Hananoi continues to be kind and selfless towards Hotaru, hoping to please her. As a result, Hotaru begins to feel emotions that she had never experienced before. Believing that these emotions could develop into love, she agrees to date Hananoi.
