In 2015, over ten years have passed since Second Impact, an event that devastated humankind. During this time of recovery, some individuals learned about beings known as Angels - gigantic malevolent entities with the goal of causing Third Impact and wiping out humanity. Shinji, a teenager living in Tokyo-3, is summoned by his father Gendou Ikari to fight these Angels. Although separated from Gendou since his mother's death, Shinji believes that his father wants to repair their relationship. However, he discovers that he was brought to pilot Evangelion Unit-01, a giant machine designed to combat the Angels. As Shinji battles wave after wave of these threats, he becomes entangled in a plan that could shape the future of humanity forever.
Death and Rebirth is a highly condensed re-edit of the series (Death) plus the first half of The End of Evangelion (Rebirth).
