In the year 2199, Earth faces a severe crisis due to continuous bombings by an alien race known as Gamilas. The planet can no longer sustain its inhabitants, and in one year, humanity will become extinct. Desperate for help, people on Earth establish the Earth Defense Force as their last defense against the powerful Gamilas Empire. However, they receive a message from the mysterious planet Iscandar that offers them a device to restore Earth to its former glory. With hope in sight, the Earth Defense Force calls upon the Space Battleship Yamato and quickly assembles a crew to make the 168,000 light-year trek to Iscandar and receive their aid.
The crew includes young officers Susumu Kodai and Daisuke Shima, along with several newly promoted leaders, all under the command of Captain Juuzou Okita. The inexperienced cast must learn how to handle the ship's innovative technology while facing Gamilas fleets. They must summon their resolve to survive the many challenges aboard the Yamato and complete their mission: saving humanity before it's too late.
