At otonokizaka high school, enrollment is declining rapidly every year, which means that the school will shut down after its current first years graduate. second-year student honoka kousaka refuses to accept this fate without a fight. in search of a solution, she discovers a-rise, a popular school idol group, and decides to form her own school idol group called μs (pronounced "muse"). with the help of childhood friends umi sonoda and kotori minami, honoka sets out to increase awareness and popularity of her school. however, creating a school idol group is not an easy task. the student council president, eri ayase, strongly opposes the idea and will do everything in her power to prevent its establishment. additionally, attracting new members proves challenging for honoka and her friends. to gain more attention, they decide to participate in the love live, a competition that determines the best school idol groups in japan. with the contest quickly approaching, honoka must act quickly and diligently to form a school idol group and win the love live in order to save otonokizaka high school from closure.
Love Live! School Idol Project is a part of the "Love Live!" multimedia franchise, co-developed with Dengeki Gs Magazine. In 2015, idol group μs was Japans eighth best-selling musical act, selling over eight hundred thousand CDs, DVDs, and Blu-Rays.The series also released a mobile rhythm game titled Love Live! School Idol Festival for iOS and Android, developed by KLab, which was released in 2013 for Japan and in 2014 for English users. As of March 22, 2016, the game has surpassed 25 million users worldwide.
