After being dumped by his girlfriend, college student Kazuya Kinoshita seeks solace through a rental girlfriend from a mobile app. At first, he believes that Chizuru Mizuhara is the perfect girl with everything he desires: beauty and kindness. However, after seeing mixed reviews of her on their first date, and still reeling from his previous relationship, Kazuya becomes skeptical of Chizuru's intentions and leaves her a negative rating. Disappointed by men's disrespect towards her, Chizuru reveals her true nature: sassy and fiery, completely different from Kazuyas initial impression. Just as Kazuya is receiving news about his grandmother's collapse, he must bring Chizuru with him to the hospital. Although it turns out that his grandmother's condition is not serious, she is thrilled that Kazuya has finally found a genuine girlfriend, which was her lifelong wish. Due to lying to his grandmother, Kazuya and Chizuru are forced into a fake relationship, pretending to be deeply in love with each other.

The series began serialization in Kodanshas Weekly Shōnen Magazine in July 2017, and has been compiled into 13 volumes as of December 2019. The series has been licensed in North America by Kodansha Comics, which will release the first volume in English in 2020. An anime television series adaptation by TMS Entertainment is set to premiere in July 2020.
