The narrative unfolds during the 19th century in China, during the Qing Dynasty when the Emperor was weakened and the nation teetered on the brink of chaos. This period is also known as "The Era of the Cooking Wars," an era where renowned chefs from different culinary traditions vied for supremacy and recognition. In this land, disrespecting a distinguished chef or meddling with cooking could lead to imprisonment. Impersonating a top-chef was considered equivalent to usurping authority. Chefs competed fiercely to gain respect and power but also faced the risk of losing everything.
China has four major regions: Beijing, Szechuan, Shanghai, and Guangdong. The story commences in Szechuan, Mao's birthplace. Following his mother Pai's death, who was famously known as the "Fairy of Cuisine," Mao assumes the title of Super Chef at his mother's restaurant with the aspiration to become the Master Chef. However, before he takes on this role, he embarks on a journey across China to explore various cooking styles and techniques in pursuit of becoming a legendary chef like his mother. During his travels, Mao encounters close friends and formidable adversaries who challenge him in the realm of culinary arts.
