In her youth, Mira Kinohata encountered a young man named Ao at a campsite in town. As they gazed up at the night sky together, Mira discovered that there was a star bearing her own name, but no star called Ao. The two of them made a pact to one day explore asteroids and name one after him. Years later, Mira enrolled at Hoshizaki High School and joined the astronomy club in order to fulfill this promise. However, she learned that the astronomy club would be merged with the geological research society to form the earth science club. Despite her reservations, Mira went to the club room and was reunited with Ao Manaka, the person she had made the promise to explore asteroids with. To her surprise, she discovered that he was actually a girl!
