Kenshiro inherits the renowned martial arts style known as Hokuto Shinken, which possesses the power to end a man's life with a single strike on specific pressure points in their body. This technique can only be passed down to one successor at a time. Upon being selected as the next bearer of this art, Kenshiro separates from his siblings, Toki and Raoh. The former chooses to utilize his knowledge of the martial arts for healing purposes, while the latter uses his immense strength to bring peace to the world through force. Along with Lynn and Bart, the story follows Kenshiro as he confronts an overlord who abducts children in order to use them as laborers to construct their own pyramid.
