Chise's familiar, known as Ruth, was originally a church guard dog whose main responsibility was to protect graves from grave robbers and evil spirits. Despite being of different species, Ruth shares a deep bond with Chise and considers her his sister. In his black grim form, Ruth resembles a large black dog with pure black fur. He has red eyes, which is also a characteristic trait he possesses in his human form along with hair that looks similar to his fur.
