Film held world premiere at Cannes on May 19
On Tuesday, the Twitter account for the live-action movie adaptation of Kotake Create's video game The Exit 8 (8-ban Deguchi) announced that its poster had won the Prix Luciole poster competition at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival. This is the second time this award has been given at this festival, after it was introduced last year.
During the May 19th screening of the movie at Cannes, it received an impressive eight-minute standing ovation. ( link ) at its Cannes screening.
The film will open in Japan on August 29.
In The Exit 8 film, singer and actor Kazunari Ninomiya will make his first collaboration with writer-director Genki Kawamura. Kawamura is also known for producing your name., Fireworks, Should We See it from the Side or the Bottom?, and Suzume.
In the game, a character finds themselves stuck on a subway platform beneath ground level. They must continue moving while being cautious for any unusual occurrence that could indicate potential danger. To reach "Exit 8," they must keep walking until they find something unusual that could signal danger.
In November 2023, Kotake Create released their one-person indie game on PC via Steam. It was later released on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch in addition to MyDearest releasing a virtual reality version on Meta Quest Store in July, followed by PC via Steam in September. ( link ) On both iOS and Android devices, the game was released on March 28th. Over 100 million views have been accumulated from videos related to this game on YouTube.
