Live-action Gintama's Yūichi Fukuda supervises, pens script for new film
On Wednesday, Bandai Namco Pictures released a preview of their upcoming 20th anniversary anime project based on Sgt. Frog. It was announced that this project would be a movie that will be shown in cinemas during summer 2026.
Artists Ano and Soshina are set to release a revised rendition of "KERO! to MARCH," which serves as the theme song for the upcoming celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the anime.
Image via PR Times Crunchyroll added the anime to its catalog beginning in 2021, and it describes the anime:
Keroro is Sergeant Frog - the leader of a platoon of warriors sent to conquer planet Earth. But when the amphibious invaders discovered how much humans enjoy dissecting their comrades, the troops were scattered, the mission was aborted, and Keroro was abandoned. Now, this once proud soldier spends more time wielding a vacuum than he does the weapons of war. It's a far cry from the glory of battle, but hey, at least he's got his own room. And though the invasion may have slowed to a hop, Sergeant Frog still occasionally yearns to overcome his karaoke addiction and reassemble his troops.
The anime adaptation of Mine Yoshizaki's Sgt. Frog manga, known as Keroro Gunsō, ran from 2004 to 2011. It resulted in five feature films being produced. Funimation released two seasons of the anime on DVD after ADV Films had licensed it but not released it.
Discotek obtained the rights for the anime series Sgt. Frog, which is now available for purchase in sequential SD Blu-ray Disc releases by season starting in 2021. They released seasons 5-7 last year.
Tokyopop published twenty volumes of the original manga in North America before closing down in 2011.
