In Japan, the movie premiered at 32 cinemas for just three weeks, beginning March 28th. It featured the exclusive original episode "Hoshina's Day Off." In North America, Sony Pictures Entertainment released the movie through an event-style screening at cinemas from April 13th to 16th. Both Japanese with English subtitles and English dubbed versions were available during these screenings.
In the movie "Hoshina's Day Off," the song "Invincible" by the American group OneRepublic is used as its closing tune.
Several individuals from the initial series appeared in the latest installment. As the original author of Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Yūto Tsukuda wrote the original story for this episode. Meanwhile, Yūichirō Kido, who is known for his work on Dr. Stone, served as the scriptwriter. In this particular episode, Reno takes advantage of his day off to spend time with Hoshina, who is also enjoying a day off. Along with Iharu, Reno follows Hoshina as they explore their surroundings.
The second season of the Japanese animated series will debut on TV Tokyo and associated stations on July 19th. It will also be available for streaming worldwide in real-time as it airs in Japan through X (formerly Twitter). Furthermore, the original side story episode "Hoshina's Day Off" was broadcasted on Japanese TV on July 5th at 11:00 p.m JST (10:00 a.m. EDT) and was also streamed worldwide in real-time through X/ Twitter as it was being shown in Japan.
Kōki Uchiyama will join the cast as Gen Harumi in the second season. Other new cast members include Hiroki Yasumoto as Eiji Hasegawa and Kana Hanazawa as Rin Shinonome. Norwegian singer-songwriter (and longtime anime fan) AURORA performs the second season's opening theme song "You Can't Run From Yourself," and OneRepublic returns to the franchise to perform the new ending theme song "Beautiful Colors."
In Japan, the first season of the anime was broadcast on TV Tokyo starting from April 2024. It consisted of 12 episodes. Crunchyroll provided English subtitles for this anime while also streaming it with English dubbing. Additionally, X (formerly Twitter) made it possible for viewers worldwide to watch the anime simultaneously with its Japanese broadcast through real-time streaming.
The anime was directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Tomomi Kamiya. Ichirō Ōkouchi handled the series composition and screenplay. Tetsuya Nishio was in charge of character design and served as the chief animation director. Mahiro Maeda designed the monsters in the anime. Shinji Kimura was the art director, while Yūta Bandō composed the music for the series.
The animation for "Ghost in the Shell" was produced by Production I.G, while "Rebuild of Evangelion" had its kaiju designs and artwork created by Studio Khara.
Viz Media has made available both digital and physical versions of the Monster #8 manga. Meanwhile, Shueisha releases the digital version of the same story on its MANGA Plus service as Monster #8.
