In Treasure Town, "The Cats" are rumored to own the streets. These two orphan boys, Black and White, possess all the knowledge about what happens in the city. No one can cause any trouble without first going through them. However, this rule is put to the test when the Yakuza arrive and begin making changes. With no one else to turn to, Black and White must rely on themselves to restore their beloved Treasure Town back to its former glory. But as they soon discover, returning things to how they were might not be possible. Their bond is tested in this challenging situation.

At the 2006 Mainichi Film Awards, the film won the Best Film Award. At the 2008 Tokyo International Anime Fair it won the Best Original Story and Best Art Direction awards. It also won the 2008 Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year.
