Voice actress was hospitalized for multiple organ cancer on August 4
On Saturday, August 13th, it was reported that voice actress Tomo Sakurai passed away after fighting multiple organ cancer. She was 53 years old.
On August 10, Sakurai had canceled ( link ) Her "TOMO Natsu 2025 Live" concert scheduled for August 17 has been postponed due to her sudden hospitalization on August 4 for cancer treatment.
Sakurai's burial ceremony will only include family members, but there might be a goodbye celebration for admirers at a later time.
In 1987, Sakurai started her career in the entertainment industry as part of Lemon Angel, an idol group. She later shifted to voice acting. In September 2016, she announced retirement from the industry but returned in June 2019. She mentioned that using her voice had become more challenging for her in September 2016.
Sakurai is known for his voice acting work in several anime series including 7, Rurouni Kenshin, El Hazard - The Magnificent World, Saint Tail, and Gintama. He has played characters like Mylene Flare Jenius, Misao Makimachi, Shayla-Shayla, Meimi Haneoka, and Hinowa.
She has also voiced roles in such anime as Fatal Fury: The Motion Picture (Sulia Gaudeamus), Lil' Red Riding Hood Cha-Cha (Marin), Shakugan no Shana (Chigusa Sakai), and Gall Force: The Revolution (Patty). Her more recent roles include Koushi in Ushio & Tora , Mumei's mother in Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress , and Shirona/Cynthia in Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles .
She is involved in the field of music and has performed various theme songs for popular anime series like Lemon Angel, Super Doll Licca-chan, My-Otome, and The World God Only Knows. Additionally, she sang Macross songs under the character of Mylene Flare Jenius.
