Despite having a history of poor grades and being overshadowed by his classmates in mathematics and literature, third-year high school student Nariyuki Yuiga dedicated himself to becoming a successful student at his school with the goal of obtaining the special VIP nomination, which covers all future university tuition fees. Although he was initially confident in his abilities, Nariyuki struggled to keep up with his classmates and found himself constantly being overshadowed by them. However, his hard work paid off when he received the nomination. The catch? He had to tutor Rizu Ogata and Fumino Furuhashi, who were both hopelessly mediocre in each other's subject areas. To make matters worse, the subjects they struggled with were the same ones they wanted to pursue for their future careers. As the deadline for university applications approached, Nariyuki realized that he needed to find an effective tutoring method for his classmates before it was too late.

As a part of the JUMP START initiative, the first three chapters of Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai were published in English as We Never Learn in VIZ Medias digital Weekly Shonen Jump on the same day as the Japanese release. After, the series was added to VIZ Medias Weekly Shonen Jump lineup. The same publisher has licensed the series for print release.
