The Teikou Junior High Schools basketball team has won three consecutive championships thanks to five exceptional players who possess extraordinary skills that leave opponents in dismay and fans in admiration. However, after graduating, these talented individuals go their separate ways and now view each other as rivals. Meanwhile, at Seirin High School, two new recruits demonstrate that they are not ordinary basketball players: Taiga Kagami, a promising player returning from the US, and Tetsuya Kuroko, an unassuming student with little presence who can effortlessly pass the ball and assist his teammates. Despite being neither athletic nor capable of scoring points, Kuroko was previously part of Teikou's basketball team as the "Phantom Sixth Man," whose role was to facilitate play and support his teammates.
Kuroko no Basket follows the journey of Seirin's players as they strive to become Japan's top high school basketball team by winning the Interhigh Championship. To achieve this goal, they must confront several powerful teams that boast one of the five "Godlike" players, whom Kuroko and Taiga have vowed to defeat.
Kuroko no Basket also has a series of light novels, audio CDs, and several games for the Nintendo 3DS. Kuroko also appears in the crossover fighting game J-Stars Victory VS.
