In the past 100 years, magic has gone from being a myth to everyday technology worldwide. First High School is one of nine Japanese institutions that specialize in teaching magic. Two talented siblings, Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, are accepted into First High. The school divides its students into two groups based on their entrance exam scores, with Course 1 being seen as superior to Course 2. Students from Course 2 are often referred to as "Weeds" by Course 1 students, who call themselves "Blooms." Tatsuya is placed in Course 2 while Miyuki joins Course 1 as an honor student. Miyuki wants to prove that her brother, despite being labeled as inferior, is actually one of the greatest magicians globally. The story of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei is retold from the perspective of Miyuki and other female characters in Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei.
