During the start of the Meiji era, tanukis stopped using their tricks on humans due to advanced technology making it impossible for them to succeed. However, there was one young tanuki girl named Mameda who continued this tradition and traveled to Osaka in an attempt to deceive people. Unfortunately, she failed and was even hunted down by an angry crowd. While seeking refuge, Mameda stumbled upon a rakugo performance given by Bunko Daikokutei, the master of the art. She became fascinated with this style of storytelling and decided to become his apprentice. Although initially hesitant to take on a disciple, Bunko saw Mamedas determination and began teaching her rakugo. In order to master this art, Mameda had to balance her taiko apprenticeship, work at the theater, and memorize plays. Despite these challenges, she persevered and became the only art that still had a chance to fool people.
