Kou Ichinomiya is a wealthy businessman's son who believes in his superiority. He avoids debt and is determined not to owe anyone anything. However, one day he falls into a river running underneath Arakawa Bridge after an encounter with some mischievous children. A passerby saves him but now Kou owes this stranger his life. Despite being angry, Kou insists on paying back the debt, which may be the worst decision he has ever made. The stranger is Nino, a homeless girl who lives in a cardboard box under the bridge and desires only one thing: to fall in love. She forces Kou to become her boyfriend, compelling him to leave his comfortable home and start a new life under the bridge.

Episode 4 of Arakawa Under the Bridge was longer than the airing block it was scheduled for, so the epilogue and opening were cut out and streamed online instead.
