The boys' soft tennis team is struggling and facing disbandment due to poor performance and a lack of skilled members. toma shinjou is looking for capable players but fails to find any. maki katsuragi, a new transfer student with great reflexes, catches tomas attention when he captures a stray cat in his classroom. toma asks maki to join the team, but maki declines as he doesn't want to join any clubs. however, toma persists and convinces maki to join under the condition that he will pay him for participation and cover other club expenses. maki quickly outshines the rest of the team with his incredible form and quick learning. this creates conflict among the boys but motivates them to improve their skills and devote themselves to the game they once neglected. the story highlights the potential of the boys' soft tennis team, as well as their personal struggles and the darker aspects of growing up in middle school.
