The story of Otoyomegatari revolves around a young bride named Amir who gets married at the age of twenty in 19th century Asia. Her surprise at discovering that her new husband, Karluk, is four years younger than she is soon turns into deep affection for him and his family. Despite their different customs, foods, and clothing from what they are used to, Amir and Karluk gradually develop a strong bond through their daily interactions.
Otoyomegatari won the 7th Manga Taishou Award in 2014 and the intergénérations prize at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2012.The series has been published in English as A Brides Story by Yen Press since May 31, 2011; in Polish as Opowieść panny młodej by Studio JG since June 20, 2013; and in Spanish as Brides Stories by Norma Editorial since October 31, 2013.
