In 2020, humanity faces an imminent threat from extraterrestrial beings known as "Others." These creatures are capable of descending from the sky and consuming human brains. At the same time, scientists discover a hormone called psionics that grants certain individuals with extraordinary abilities to combat these monsters. The government establishes the Other Suppression Force (OSF) to fight against them and safeguard humanity. Aspiring Scarlet Guardians undergo rigorous training to join this elite group. During an induction ceremony, a young recruit named Yuito Sumeragi is among those who have completed their training. He joins the OSF as a tribute to the woman who saved him when he was five years old. However, his joy is short-lived because the woman who rescued him bears a striking resemblance to one of his teammates. Despite this, Yuito must focus on the looming danger that threatens his country. Unbeknownst to him, a sinister plot is being hatched that has the potential to shake the very foundations of his nation.

Scarlet Nexus is inspired by the Japanese action role-playing game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Tose of the same name. Published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the game was released just prior to the airing of the television series on June 25, 2021 for Windows, PlayStation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
