In a room where Yuuta Hibiki wakes up, he discovers that he has no recollection of his past and can hear an enigmatic voice calling him from another space. Upon closer examination, he encounters a robot named Hyper Agent Gridman behind the screen of an antiquated computer. To Yuutas astonishment, Rikka Takarada is unable to perceive Gridman or the looming monsters that are engulfing the city beyond the foggy boundaries. Another colossal creature emerges in the metropolis and begins to wreak havoc. Amidst the pandemonium, Yuuta once again unites with Gridman. This time, he materializes amidst the fray and is compelled to combat the monster alongside Rikka and Shou Utsumi as they form the "Gridman Alliance" to vanquish the monsters terrorizing the city and ascertain who has spawned their emergence.

SSSS.Gridman is an anime adaptation of the Tokusatsu show, Hyper-Agent Gridman, created by Tsuburaya Productions. The original aired in 1993-1994, and much like other Tokusatsu shows featured live-action, costumed actors fighting against giant monsters. The original Gridman was adapted into The Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. It was inspired by Ultraman, another Tokusatsu franchise created by Tsuburaya Productions.The series won the 50th Seiun Award for Best Dramatic Presentation in 2019.
