Atarashii Gakkō!'s Suzuka, Taizō Hamada, Aoi Itō, Jun Saitō join cast
The official X/Twitter account for Shōji Kawamori 's new and original animation film Labyrinth ( Meikyū no Shiori ) revealed four cast members for the film on Thursday. The cast members include ( Note: Character name romanizations are not official ):
Suzuka is making her voice acting debut as Shiori Maezawa in the pop group Atarashii Gakkō! Meanwhile, she is also known as Shiori@Revolution.
Taizō Harada as Komori, a rabbit stamp
Aoi Itō as Kirara Kurashina, Shiori's schoolmate
Jun Saitō as Kento Yamada, Shiori's classmate
The film will open on January 2026.
In this movie, we follow Shiori Maezawa, a typical high school student who gets transported to an alternate version of Yokohama when her phone malfunctions. Upon checking her phone, she discovers photos of herself posted online that she doesn't recall uploading. To prevent her doppelganger from causing chaos, Shiori attempts to break free from her phone's enigmatic Labyrinth.
SANZIGEN is currently working on Kawamori's first full-length animated movie that isn't based on any franchise. The original story idea was developed by Slow Curve, Vector Vision, GAGA, and Fuji Television. Slow Curve also produced this project. Risa Ebata, known for her work on Macross Frontier and AKB0048, created the characters. Taichi Hashimoto, who wrote Listeners and Gate Keepers 21, wrote the script for this movie.
According to Kawamori, the movie was inspired by the notion that smartphones are essentially an extension of oneself, storing personal data. He intends to produce a captivating entertainment piece with elements of music and horror that will evoke emotions.
Macross is an anime series known for its iconic transforming mecha called Variable Fighters, which were designed by Kawamori. He has been involved in creating many of the franchise's main installments, including Macross Delta, which is the latest one.
Kawamori is known for creating several popular anime series such as Aquarion, AKB0048, and Arjuna. He was also the chief director at Satelight for Jūshinki Pandora. Additionally, he contributed mechanical design work to several anime films including Patlabor: The Movie, Patlabor 2: The Movie, Eureka Seven, Outlaw Star, Ghost in the Shell, and more. Aside from his work in anime production, he is credited as the original creator of The Vision of Escaflowne, Basquash!, and Nobunaga The Fool. He has worked in various roles in anime production such as director, screenwriter, mechanical designer, and storyboarder.
