Kou yamori is a middle school student who struggles with understanding the concept of love. he doesn't see much sense in following norms, so he stops going to school. due to his idleness, he suffers from insomnia and spends his nights wandering alone. one night, while out on these lonely streets, kou encounters a strange girl named nazuna nanakusa who believes that people stay awake at night because they are unhappy with their day and can't rest until they release their inhibitions. she offers to help him with his sleep issues and invites him over to her place, where she convinces him to share a futon with her. although kou feels uncomfortable, he pretends to fall asleep. however, nazuna suddenly bites his neck and reveals herself as a vampire! while kou believes that the bite will turn him into a vampire, the specifics of transformation are more complex. in order to change, he must be bitten by someone he truly loves. with this new goal in mind, kou decides to fall in love with nazuna and become a vampire.
