Hitomi Kanzaki is feeling extremely down and just wants to rest. She's surrounded by sadness and feels like disappearing. Her misery calls upon Lord Folken, who sends her to the land of Gaea. The people of Gaea believe that she is the Wing Goddess, a powerful being capable of summoning the legendary Dragon Armor known as Escaflowne. On Gaea, King Van, the last surviving member of the White Dragon Clan, is also feeling depressed and vows to seek revenge against the Black Dragon Clan for destroying his kingdom. Now that the Wing Goddess has arrived, she holds the fate of Gaeas world in her heart. Escaflowne will either bring peace or destruction to the land.
