Gen kudou, a craftsman who specializes in creating traditional japanese instruments known as koto, believes that his grandson chika would never comprehend the profound significance of this musical instrument. in an effort to make amends for his own ignorance and gain a deeper understanding of his late grandfather's words, chika attempts to join the tokise high school koto club. despite being in dire need of members, new club president takezou kurata initially refuses to accept chikas application due to his negative reputation. however, after witnessing chikas dedication and passion, takezou concedes and allows him to become a member, along with koto virtuoso satowa houzuki and three of chikas energetic companions. the series kono oto tomare! follows this lively group of musicians as they work towards competing at the national level.
