The Death Weapon Meister Academy is located in Death City and was founded by Shinigami, who serves as its leader. Its purpose is to maintain peace among humans and train Meisters and Demon Weapons-people with weapon-like abilities-to defend against evil forces. To become a true Meister, one must create a "Death Scythe" that can be wielded by Shinigami. This requires the consumption of 99 human souls and one witch's soul. Maka Albarn and Soul Eater Evans are two students at the academy who aspire to become Death Scythes. They are joined by Black☆Star, Tsubaki Nakatsukasa, and Death the Kid (Kid), along with their respective partners, Patricia "Patty" Thompson and Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson. Together, they work towards becoming the ultimate Meister and Demon Weapon team. However, many mysteries remain unsolved, and as new enemies emerge and secrets are revealed, Maka, Soul, and their friends must protect Death City, the academy, and the world from threats far greater than humans.
