When Haruto Amakawa, a 20-year-old college student, dies in a traffic accident and wakes up as Rio, a young boy with magical powers, he is initially confused but grateful for his newfound abilities. As he begins to explore this unfamiliar world, he realizes that his burning desire for revenge against his mother's murderers has not diminished despite the change in identity. Not long after, Rio encounters the kidnapped princess of the Bertram Kingdom and rescues her without hesitation. In gratitude, the king offers him a chance to attend the prestigious Bertram Royal Academy. Although excited about this new opportunity, Rio struggles with his differences as he is a slum-dweller surrounded by wealthy children from noble families.
