Rintarou okabe, once an eccentric self-proclaimed mad scientist, is now a depressed and traumatized college student. after failing to rescue his friend makise kurisu, he has decided to leave behind his mad scientist persona and live as an ordinary person. surrounded by friends who know little about his time travel experiences, okabe tries to forget the horrors of his past alone. while working as a receptionist at a college technology forum, okabe meets maho hiyajo, who later turns out to be the interpreter for professor alexis leskinen's presentation on amadeus, an ai capable of storing a person's memories and creating a perfect simulation of that person complete with their personality and quirks. during the presentation, okabe learns that kurisu is one of alexis' colleagues from university and has been simulated in amadeus by maho and alexis. hired by alexis to research the ai's behavior, okabe gets a chance to interact with the shadow of his long-lost friend. however, he must navigate the dangerous consequences that come with meddling with time.

The Steins;Gate 0 anime partially adapts and continues the story of the visual novel of the same name. The anime is considered to be the final iteration of the Steins;Gate 0 story.
