    Viz Media, based in California, specializes in manga publishing and licensing Japanese anime, films, and TV shows. Founded in 1986 as Viz, it merged with ShoPro Entertainment in 2005 to become Viz Media. This company is owned by Shueisha and Shogakukan from Japan, along with ShoPro. In 2017, Viz Media was the largest publisher of graphic novels in the US bookstore market with a 23% share.
