In Ostania and Westalis, politicians and nationalists are constantly threatening peace between neighboring countries. Despite these dangers, a skilled spy known as "Twilight" continues to take on dangerous missions in hopes of preventing war from happening. In the city of Berlint in Ostanian, Twilight disguises himself as Dr. Loid Forger, an esteemed psychiatrist with the goal of gathering intelligence on politician Donovan Desmond. To do this, he enlists the help of Yor Briar, a city hall clerk who becomes his wife and adopts Anya, a six-year-old orphan, as his daughter. Loid hopes that by enrolling Anya in Eden Academy, where she will excel, he can meet Donovan without raising suspicion. However, playing the role of a loving father and husband proves challenging for Loid. Yor is an assassin known as "Thorn Princess" who also keeps her true identity hidden, while Anya has the ability to read minds. Despite their deceptive family life, they come to understand that love is what truly matters.
