The United Earth Sphere Alliance is a dominant military force that has governed Earth and its space colonies with an iron fist for several decades. When the colonies rebelled against this rule, their leader was assassinated. Now, in the year After Colony 195, bitter colonial insurgents have launched "Operation Meteor," sending five powerful mobile suits to Earth seeking vengeance. Constructed from nearly indestructible material known as Gundanium Alloy, these "Gundams" initiate an attack against the Alliance and its subordinate organization OZ. One of these Gundams, piloted by Heero Yuy, is forced to make a crash landing into the ocean after engaging in atmospheric combat with Zechs Marquise, OZ's ace pilot. Upon reaching shore, he is discovered by Relena Peacecraft, daughter of a peace-seeking politician, who witnesses his descent to Earth. Although neither of them are aware of it at this time, their encounter will have a profound impact on their lives as well as those living on Earth and in its space colonies.
