When an Emishi village is attacked by a powerful demon boar, Prince Ashitaka puts his life on the line to protect his people. As the beast takes its last breath, it curses the prince's arm with supernatural powers while slowly draining him of life energy. The elders in the village instruct Ashitaka to journey westward to find a cure for his affliction. Upon arriving at Tatara, the Iron Town, he becomes entangled in a fierce conflict between Lady Eboshi and Princess San, who are fighting over deforestation and the protection of sacred forest spirits. As nature and mankind clash in a desperate battle for survival, Ashitaka struggles to find balance while grappling with his inner demon. The story of Princess Mononoke explores the relationship between technology and nature, highlighting the path towards harmony that can be achieved through mutual understanding and acceptance.
In 1997 the film won Best Japanese Movie, Best Animation and Japanese Movie Fans Choice awards during the 52nd Mainichi Film Awards. In 1998 the film won the Best Picture award during the 21st Japan Academy Awards.
