Tow Ubukata was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1977 and experienced diverse cultures from an early age due to his father's work in Singapore and Nepal. At college, he won the first Sneaker Taisho Gold Prize for Kuroi Kisetsu (Black Season) in 1996, marking his debut as a writer. In 2003, Ubukata received the Nihon SF Taisho Award for Mardock Scramble, which was originally published as a three-volume series. He is involved in various projects such as anime production for Fafner, video game production, and original content writing for comics like Le Chevalier DEon. His other works include the Bye-Bye Earth and Spiegel novel series. In 2009, Ubukata published his first historical novel, Tenchi Meisatsu, focusing on an Edo period mathematician.
