In 0071 CE, Heliopolis is a neutral space colony in the midst of an intergalactic conflict between Coordinators and Naturals. The hatred of Naturals towards Coordinators led them to flee Earth for man-made colonies in space. Kira Yamato, a Coordinator student at Heliopolis, has his life disrupted when ZAFT, a military organization made up of rebellious Coordinators, attacks the colony and tries to steal five advanced mobile suits called Gundams. Although they manage to take four Gundams, Kira manages to control the fifth one, known as the Strike. After surviving the battle, he joins the crew of the Archangel, a ship operated by Earth Alliance, where he experiences war and its devastating consequences.

The HD Remaster of Gundam SEED omits episodes 14 and 26 of the original, therefore having a total of 48 episodes.Mobile Suit Gundam SEED won the Animation of the Year in the 3rd Tokyo International Anime Fair. It was the eighth TV Feature Award winner at the Animation Kobe Awards in 2003. It was the third winner at the Japanese Otaku Awards in 2003.
